As a counselor-in-training, I have learned that flexibility is essential when navigating ethical dilemmas in real-world settings, particularly when client needs, contextual factors, and systemic constraints intersect. Through practicum and supervision experiences, I have become more comfortable revising assessment plans, consulting supervisors, and modifying interventions as new information emerges. Instructor feedback prompted me to deepen my analysis of cultural competence, informed consent, and assessment selection, leading me to revise sections addressing cultural bias and developmental considerations. These revisions emphasize that ethical assessment is not a static process, but one that requires ongoing responsiveness to client background, language, life stage, and presenting concerns.
This growth is reflected in my revised artifact through clearer justification of assessment choices and an increased acknowledgment of the limitations of standardized tools. I have developed greater flexibility in recognizing when assessments must be adapted, supplemented, or interpreted cautiously to ensure ethical and culturally responsive practice. When ethical principles intersect with real-world constraints—such as limited assessment options, systemic barriers, or evolving client presentations—I now view consultation, supervision, and culturally informed decision-making as essential components of ethical assessment rather than optional considerations.
Moving forward, I will continue to strengthen flexibility by remaining open to feedback, seeking ongoing supervision, integrating client perspectives, and engaging in evidence-based adjustments to assessment and treatment planning. Further development in this area will include continued practice in cultural humility and ethical reflection to ensure client-centered care. Strengthening this disposition supports ethical practice, enhances client outcomes, and reinforces my professional identity as a responsive and reflective counselor-in-training.
